Step five Developing Evaluation Activities

As you begin to develop evaluation activities you will need to take into account the resources of your fictional district. Perhaps your district is on a small budget and you need to be careful not to develop an evaluation plan that cannot be implemented due to a lack of staff. On the other hand perhaps your district has the resources to implement a more elaborate plan. In any event, not every training activity needs to have a corresponding evaluation activity. Many of the activities build upon one another and it is the 'culminating' activity that merits evaluation.

1. Design evaluation to measure the success of your training activities.

Remember, in this backward mapping strategy, successful activities insure success in meeting the objectives of the training, which in turn means the successful completion of the outcome of the training program.

2. Enter your evaluation activities onto the Training Planning Form in the Evaluation column and then compare them against the following criteria for evaluation.

Are the evaluation statements objective and measurable?
Is each activity accounted for in an evaluation measure?
Is there a match between the activity and evaluation measure?
Will the information produced from the evaluation determine whether or not the objective has been met?

3. Make any needed adjustments to your evaluation activities.
