Determine Objectives
Before you write your objectives, it is important to organize the content of the XYZ Program into key topics, elements, and issues or 'chunks' of content.
1. Examine the XYZ Curriculum and define what appears to be the 'key' elements, points, etc. of the program.
Refer to the
XYZ Curriculum, that was downloaded earlier.
Using a scratch piece of paper, write the key components you identify. Another way to approach this task is to think about the content in terms of "What is it about this body of content that we want teachers to take away from the training?" The components you choose will form the basis for organizing the program content into likely pieces for training.
2. The next step is to develop objectives which, when looked at as a whole, will bring your teachers to successful achievement of your training outcome.
Enter your objectives onto the Training Planning Form in the Objectives column. Remember to keep it simple; the XYZ Program has 4 or 5 key components and your training could easily be accomplished with only one or two objectives for each component.
3. When you have finished writing your objectives, check your work against the following criteria for writing objectives.
Does the objective indicate who is performing the task?
Is the description of what is to be done written in measurable, observable terms?
Are there a sufficient number of objectives to meet the stated outcomes?
Are the objectives clearly written and understandable to the reader?
4. Make any needed adjustments to your objectives to meet the criteria.
