Opportunities for professional growth are important for all staff. Professional development provides staff with continuing education opportunities to keep updated on the latest developments in the field as well as to improve their skills in working with students, families, and their co-workers. To maximize their limited time and resources it is important to plan and conduct professional development activities that are based on what is known about how adults learn best. As we plan and conduct training we need to be familiar with how adults learn best and incorporate strategies in the training that facilitate adult learning.
