The Oregon TBI Consulting Team

"It's like my life had changed after my head injury . . . it was real hard to deal with people that were used to me being a different way than I was. I wasn't in a wheelchair . . . and I didn't have scars on my head . . . (so) they couldn't see that I had some real disabilities." -Student with TBI

Effects of TBI

Home

As a result of injuries from motor vehicle crashes, falls, sports, and physical abuse each year, 30,000 children will be left with long-lasting, significant alterations in social, behavioral, physical, and cognitive functioning. Schools have difficulty meeting the needs of this unique group because TBI impacts students' abilities to learn and perform in cognitive, behavioral and social domains in unpredictable and often confusing ways. Special and general educators rarely receive training to help them understand and serve students with TBI. The TBI Consulting Team addresses the needs associated with providing effective educational experiences for these students.
