Types of Support

Your role as mentor will place you in the position of providing different types of support throughout the year to your beginning teacher.

  • Instructional - give support regarding teaching strategies, instruction and curricular content, student assessment and evaluation
  • System - provide information related to the procedures and guidelines of the district, special education policies, paperwork and expectations of the school and the school's culture
  • Resource - locate, collect, and disseminate resources
  • Emotional - offer personal support through encouragement, listening and sharing experiences
  • Managerial - help with organizing, scheduling, daily routines, working with itinerant staff and paraprofessionals
  • Consultation - suggest ideas on how to conference and work with parents, regular education staff and administrators
  • Behavior - assist in developing management strategies for particular children and developing behavioral strategies within the regular classroom
