The primary task of the mentor is to help the beginning teacher develop competence, self-confidence, self-direction, and professionalism towards their new career.
Mentor teachers assume the responsibility to:- Share information about program procedures, guidelines and expectations.
- Link the protege to the appropriate resources.
- Act as a role model to the protege.
- Share teaching strategies and materials.
- Offer professional and collegial support.
- Provide guidance in discipline, planning and scheduling.
- Promote self-reflection and analysis.
