Responsibilities of Mentors

The primary task of the mentor is to help the beginning teacher develop competence, self-confidence, self-direction, and professionalism towards their new career.

Mentor teachers assume the responsibility to:
  • Share information about program procedures, guidelines and expectations.
  • Link the protege to the appropriate resources.
  • Act as a role model to the protege.
  • Share teaching strategies and materials.
  • Offer professional and collegial support.
  • Provide guidance in discipline, planning and scheduling.
  • Promote self-reflection and analysis.
