The primary criteria for the selection of mentors includes:
- Being viewed as experts by their peers.
- Having demonstrated excellence in working with other teachers and school staff.
- The skills to convey concepts and ideas to others.
- The ability to be reflective and analytical regarding teaching.
- A familiarity with resources available in the district.
- The ability to act as a coordinator and referral source to the new teacher on training
and related resources.
- The desire to mentor and work with beginning teachers.
- A commitment to their role of leadership.
- Being currently in a teaching position (or recently retired) and have worked within the
district for at least five years.
