Goals of Coaching
The main purpose of coaching is to promote collaboration and collegiality to move the beginning teacher from their current skill base to where they want to be (Costa, 1996).
Costa and Garmston (1994) have identified three goals of coaching:
- To establish and maintain trust between the mentor and the beginning teacher
- To facilitate mutual learning
- To enhance the beginning teacher's growth toward "holonomy" (acting autonomously while acting interdependently).
