E-Learning Introduction

Families First: Overview
This introductory module reviews the combined reading goals of Oregon's Reading First and Oregon's State Improvement in Special Education (SIG) initiatives. An exploration of nationally noted family reading programs will help participants outline the steps they need to take in planning appropriate programming in their local schools.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Participants will identify local and state partners and resources to aid in the development of a sustainable family reading program at their local school and/or district.
  2. Through analysis of case studies participants will demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of at least three major program methodologies used in planning and implementing existing family reading programs.
  3. Participants will identify three challenges they might encounter in replicating and/or adopting two or more of the family reading program examples provided.
  4. Participants will strategize three possible interventions to assist them in overcoming or reducing the specific challenges identified above.
  5. Participants will commence a family reading program resource binder (to be further developed in Modules 2, 3 & 4).

Upon enrollment participants will be able to access all of the learning modules and resource materials in PDF format.
