Deafblind International (DbI) Communication Network

For more than 10 years, the DbI Communication Network-an international workgroup of professionals-has investigated aspects of social interaction and early communication in congenitally deaf-blind individuals. Focus topics have included the development of social interaction and the development of a first vocabulary. The current focus of the group is to investigate how meaning is shared, conveyed, and established during communication. The group has developed a series of papers that are available on the Web: http://www.nud.dk/en/publikation/enpublikation.htm (page down to Communication Network Update Series). The series includes the following:

  • Introduction
  • Congenitally Deafblind Persons and the Emergence of Social and Communicative Interaction
  • Sensation, Perception and Formation of Meaning-What Does it Mean When People Are Congenitally Deafblind?
  • Update on the Concept of Blending in Relation to Congenital Deafblindness and the Formation of Meaning in Communicative Interactions
  • DbI Seminar on Transcription of Meaning Negotiation, NUD, December 9th to 12th , 2003
